Wound Care
Spinal Cord Injuries have a devastating effect on the life of the individual and many of them are rendered totally immobile below their neck or below their waist. As a result, they often develop severe Bed Sores (Pressure Wounds) that can cause the affected part of the body to rot away and in several cases become life threatening. These wounds can range between a couple of inches in diameter and depth to about 8-10 inches in diameter and 6-8 inches deep in cases where the wound is not managed well. The time for the wound to heal can range from between 3-4 weeks to a few months and can cost thousands of rupees depending on the severity of the case.
The Good Sam Foundation offers people with Spinal Cord Injuries comprehensive wound care services and helps train care givers on wound management and preventive care. The people that we serve are among the poorest of the poor and often those who either have no access to basic healthcare services or cannot afford them. Your support helps save lives and makes life worth a living.
